Chiropractic Plantar Fasciitis Treatment

If you are a runner, you probably have heard of plantar fasciitis, if not suffered from it yourself. Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammation of the plantar fascia, the soft tissue that spans the length of your foot, joining the heal bone to your toes. It can be caused by an injury or repeated or imbalanced stress on the foot. It can happen to both feet, or just one. 

Not just runners suffer from plantar fasciitis. It can also affect people with excessive pronation or high arches, people who stand for long periods of time and those who are overweight. In each case, there is improper balance and shifting of weight. 

Symptoms? People with plantar fasciitis will experience pain and stiffness in the affected foot when they first rise in the morning. The pain may subside for awhile, but if you stand for a long time, it comes back later in the day with a vengence. 

As for treatments of plantar fasciitis and its associated pain, surgery is rarely used. Instead, a combination physiotherapy and changes in your exercise routine or shoe supports can be helpful. In any case, your chiropractor is the first person you should call for an evaluation and treatment program. 

Chiropractic solutions include massage therapy and physiotherapy to stretch and relax the planta fascia and related joints and muscles of the foot and leg. The chiropractor may examine your posture and gait and help you make corrections so the plantar fasciitis at the very least doesn’t get any worse. Other treatments may include chyrotherapy, electric muscle stimulation and ultrasound. 

Plantar fasciitis can take as long as a year to subside, so it’s important to remain patient and adhere to any lifestyle changes or home treatments recommended by your chiropractic. And remember: the pain will eventually go away.
